For the first time ever, the University of Virginia men’s basketball team are champions. The Cavaliers won the NCAA championship on April 8, defeating Texas Tech 85-77.
In honor of the win, fans are invited to a homecoming at UVA, hosted by the school’s athletics department on April 3, at 2 p.m. The event will be held at Scott Stadium.
The west and southwest gates of Scott Stadium will be used for the celebration event, and will open at 12:30 p.m. Parking is free, and first-come, first-serve in the lots surrounding the stadium. Event admission is also free, and seating will be open on the west side of the stadium.
The clear bag policy and entry procedures that are commonplace at all home basketball and football games will be enforced at Saturday’s events. Concessions will be open, and fans will have the opportunity to purchase merchandise, including NCAA championship apparel.
For those interested in showing their support upon the team’s arrival home today (April 9), the team is expected to arrive at UVA’s John Paul Jones Arena around 4:45-5 p.m. Parking at the Emmet/Ivy Garage is strongly recommended. The Cavalier Team Shop will be open in the arena until 7 p.m. today for fans to purchase National Championship merchandise.
