Monday night, Bryce Harper beat Kyle Schwarber 19-18 in Nationals Park’s Home Run Derby, his first win.

Three property owners put in an appeal last month hoping to prevent the demolition of Herndon buildings at 770 Elden St. and 750 Center St., part of the plan to redevelop the downtown area. The Herndon Town Council will be holding a public meeting to hear the property owners’ concerns.

The University of Virginia Center for Transportation Studies has calculated when, on average, it is cheapest to travel on Interstate 66. The lowest toll rates occur before 6:30 a.m.

Details are emerging concerning the murder of 65-year-old Bradford Jackson, who was beaten and stabbed to death in the 1200 block of King Street, inside the window installation business where he worked. According to witnesses, the 34-year-old New Jersey suspect, now in custody, had run out of the window store with his arms covered in blood.

Saturday, the Arlington County Board approved the $3.4 billion Capital Improvement Plan, construction spending that is expected to last 10 years. $1 million has been allotted to the Neighborhood Conservation program—bringing their total 10-year budget to $37 million—which aims to make sidewalk and landscaping improvements.

Following the death of a 25-year-old McLean man who was shot by U.S. Park Police during a November 2017 traffic stop, Rep. Don Beyer of Virginia’s 8th Congressional District has submitted an amendment to the Interior Appropriations Bill in the hopes of securing funding for a body camera pilot program.

The Virginia Department of Transportation intends to alter access to the Virginia Route 193/Georgetown Pike on ramp to the Inner Loop of the Capital Beltway after hearing McLean residents’ frustrations with rush hour traffic in the area. One potential solution would close the ramp from 1-7 p.m., and another would ban all left hand turns onto the ramp in the afternoon, which would require enforcement from police. A public meeting will be held at McLean High School on Aug. 2 at 7 p.m., and another meeting will be held before the Farifax County Board of Supervisors sometime this fall.

Monday night, the Charlottesville City Council voted to change the names of Lee Park and Jackson’s Park (temporarily called Emancipation Park and Justice Park, respectively) to Market Street Park and Court Square Park.
