Outsourcing chores: the fridge isn’t going to fill itself…or is it?

Make sure your kids don’t starve and the pet doesn’t ruin that rug, all without leaving your couch.

It’s cold, and going outside is not in the cards. Make sure your kids don’t starve and the pet doesn’t ruin that rug, all without leaving your couch.

Skip the aisle rage one can feel at the grocery store—screaming kids, that person who stands in the middle of the aisle and is oblivious to everyone else—by outsourcing your foodie needs. Most of us are familiar with Safeway and Giant’s services, but there are other options in town. Whole Foods teamed up with Instacart for grocery delivery, and you can purchase from Costco, Safeway and Harris Teeter in the same order. Farm2Me is a farm-to-fridge company that will deliver locally sourced foods from farmers and artisans. Other local concierge companies will do your grocery shopping for you and even put it away: A Second Me Errand Service, On Task Errands, It’s Your Time and JCL Services.

Jonesing for some sushi but not enough to get out of your pajamas? Restaurant delivery is your answer—and the downfall of your diet. Companies like GrubHub, Seamless, TakeOut Taxi and Yelp’s Eat24 deliver your food order in record time. Smartphone apps are free to further your laziness.

Since Mother Nature apparently remembered that it’s winter, we’ve found help to clear your driveway of the white stuff. Task Easy, the most impressive site, features an aerial photo of your home to trace a removal path for an instant quote. Other companies include FC Paving, JL Tree Service, W&W Landscaping and My Gutter Doctor.

Walking Fido is the last thing anyone wants to do when it’s nasty out, so hire someone to do the deed: Northern Virginia Pet Sitters, Becky’s Pet Care, Rover, Whoop Da Doo and Doodlebug Dog Walker.

The clothes piled high in your laundry room aren’t going to wash themselves (unfortunately). These NoVA-based companies are like having Martha Stewart on speed dial—no more Googling how to fold those fitted sheets. Total Cleaners, Bergmann’s, Parkway Dry Cleaning and Maple Cleaners pick up, wash, fold and deliver your laundry to your door.

And after all that clicking and dialing to get your tasks done, reward yourself with a spa day in the comfort of your own home: Celebrating You, In the Nick of Time Spa, Miracles in the City and Manicures N’Motion.
