Drink & howl this winter: NoVA’s best open mic comedy hotspots

If you are looking to see your favorite entertainer or just an amateur performer looking to share a few good laughs, check out these venues located throughout NoVA neighborhoods.

Whether you are bored with dinner and a movie or are looking to laugh the winter blues away, NoVA has you covered with open mic hotspots featuring both local comedians and some big names. If you are looking to see your favorite entertainer or just an amateur performer looking to share a few good laughs, check out these venues located throughout NoVA neighborhoods.

 Arlington Cinema & Drafthouse

Filled with rich live entertainment and movies, Arlington Cinema & Drafthouse has long been home to performers and audiences alike. Unique in design, this venue is a combination of both restaurant and theater. This all-inclusive setup enables visitors to enjoy the entertainment experience without having to venture beyond its doors. Comedy lovers can choose from a variety of shows such as live performances from Tom Green, Chris Gerhard and the Cool Cow Comedy Showcase. Kings Tavern & Wine Bar

Don’t be fooled. Although this tavern primarily dedicates its stage to musical artists, those looking to test their comedic skills are welcomed to join the act. Open mic night is every Friday starting at 9 p.m. / 19 South King St., Leesburg; 703-777-5000.

Lion & Bull 

This bar and grill may look like your regular go-to restaurant to watch the big game and listen to live music performances. However, that all changes on the last Tuesday of every month at 8 p.m. when local and regional comedians take center stage and turn this upscale scene into Comedy Night. / 5351 Merchants View Square, Haymarket; 703-754-1166.

O’Sullivan‘s 

If you are looking to experience NoVA’s open mic night without having to pay the price, O’Sullivan’s is the place to be. This Irish pub opens its doors for free every Sunday, when customers can enjoy performances from local NoVA’s comedians. All audiences must be 21 years old for admission. The show runs from 7-9 p.m. / 3207 Washington Blvd., Arlington; 703-812-0939.

Tally Ho Theatre

Located in the historic sector of downtown Leesburg, the Tally Ho Theatre is a multipurpose venue designed to showcase theater, music and other performing arts genres. However, for those looking for some comedic entertainment, audiences can set their sights on NBC’s Last Comic Standing semifinalist Jason Weems, who will take the spotlight on Jan. 29./19 West Market St., Leesburg: 703-777-1666.

Workhouse Arts Center

Although the Workhouse Arts Center features all types of genres in the visual and performing arts, there is one production that will tickle your funny bone and leave you laughing for days. On Jan. 23, Emmy Award-winner Kevin Meaney and comedian Julia Scotti will partner up and take control of the microphone in two consecutive showings. Wolf Trap 

To end the weekend on a comedic quip, audiences can enjoy a witty performance from stand-up comedian Ted Alexandro. The show will take place Friday, Jan. 29, at The Barns at Wolf Trap. /1635 Trap Road, Vienna; 703-255-1900.
