Scott and Gina Memmott have had ideas for changes they wanted to make ever since they moved into their 1951 ranch style home 20 years ago.
However, it wasn’t until the COVID-19 pandemic hit that they finally thought seriously about a renovation and reached out to TriVistaUSA, an Arlington boutique design and build company, for a consultation.
The end result was a multi-room renovation that brought a beautiful blend of bold choices and midcentury-modern style into their “forever” home.
“Scott and Gina had this really lovely Arlington home that had a fine foundation, but ultimately, they wanted to open the space up a bit more,” says Michael Sauri, owner and president of TriVistaUSA.
Updating the Bedroom Area
The goal was to create a beautiful, updated primary suite complete with a bathroom, closet, and a home office to work out of.
The primary suite features a black, two-sided fireplace that sits on the wall that divides the bedroom from the office, which has one wall lined with shelving and cabinetry.
The primary suite bathroom has a stand-alone, glass-enclosed shower with multiple shower heads and a stand-alone soaking tub. But the room’s real stunner is its geometric tile.
“It is just this super sexy, dark mosaic tile with almost a gold-colored grout, and it just turned out to be so stunning and handsome,” says Sauri. “Even how the tile wraps into the windowsill turned out amazing.”
“There is a reverence here. There’s romance. And just a deeply introspective look and feel,” he says.
Expanding to the Living Room
The project eventually expanded from the bedroom area to include the living room area, which features yet another bold choice the owners made — a black painted brick wall and two sets of double black doors that let you look into the backyard living space.
“That area was originally red brick, and it also features a cool, vintage brick floor, so we wanted to keep that, but also find a way to kind of modernize it,” Sauri says.
“Scott and Gina were not afraid to be bold, which made this project really fun.”
The choice for a dark wall color does not feel overwhelming in the space. “It just feels really rich and mature,” Sauri says.
Sauri removed a dividing wall to open the space to include a relaxing library area.
“The doors that we put across the back are such a wonderful addition both opening up the house with light and beautiful cross breezes,” says Gina Memmott. “But honestly, we love every part of the renovation. We often say to each other that we can’t believe how wonderful the house is.”
Working with TriVistaUSA turned out to be seamless.
“TriVista has a wonderful, talented, dedicated design and construction management team that seemed genuinely to care about the project as much as we did,” says Scott Memmott. “We really couldn’t love the house more.”
