It’s only fitting that the backyard of a 15,000-square-foot custom house includes a pool, spa, and deck; a screened-in porch furnished for dining or lounging; and a pool cabana that has kitchen, dining, and sitting areas.
“The homeowners are a very large and active family. It was important for them to create a fun, functional backyard where they could spend a lot of time,” says interior designer Paola Martinez of Olamar Interiors, who worked closely on this new build by BCN Homes from inception to completion.
In keeping with the style of the house — a warm contemporary that combines stone and wood elements in equal measure — the exterior spaces are sleek yet welcoming.
“For the outdoor furniture, we stuck with clean, modern lines, warm wood, and gray fabrics to coordinate with the architecture of the home,” says Martinez.
The outdoor furnishings are spread around, from the screened porch to the pool deck and cabana. Though the overall palette is neutral, accents of navy, aqua, turquoise, and orange in artwork, rugs, and pillows lend the furniture groupings a happy, contemporary beach feel.
The star of the show, however, is the pool cabana.
“It has large folding doors that open up completely to create an indoor-outdoor feel, and a large indoor grill in the kitchen for grilling anytime of the year. We also added a beautiful fireplace to support that,” says Martinez. “The cabana really becomes entertaining central.”
Between the roomy sectional by the fireplace and the dining table large enough to seat 10, not to mention the bar counter, there is much year-round socializing and fun to be had in this cabana.
