A Singaporean Restaurant Will Open In Tysons Galleria This Fall

With Jiwa Singapura, chef Mamu will introduce our region to the fusion cuisine inside the upscale mall.

With a vibrant Chinatown, a stunning Little India, and food halls filled with everything from Malaysian to Indonesian to native Peranakan cuisines, Singapore is one of my favorite places in the world to eat. And NoVA is getting its first taste of it soon.

According to LinkedIn, Malaysian chef Rashidin Bin Abd Rashid has plied his trade from the Maldives to Kazakhstan. There’s not a doubt that he’s a globetrotter. Now, the man better known as Chef Mamu has landed in Tysons. He will open Jiwa Singapura inside Tysons Galleria this fall.

Most details of Mamu’s American debut are still cloudy. What we do know is that Jiwa Singapura will occupy a 7,110-square-foot space inside the chic mall. Reservations will be available on Resy for meals served starting at 11:30 a.m. each day.

But the sexiest information is on Jiwa Singapura’s Facebook page. It mentions an emphasis on seafood, but even more tantalizing, the presence of a chef’s “makan-hidang” tasting menu. That refers to a table filled with small bites, a Malaysian-Singaporean equivalent to Indonesian rijsttafel.

According to his reps at Eleven Eleven PR, Mamu “has dedicated his life to reinventing the heritage dishes from [Singapore].” Before long, Northern Virginians will be the latest introduced to the fusion cuisine.
