Late last month South Block Juice Co. took over the abandoned Urban Pantry space, which closed in February, to open a new shop next door to its micro-juicery. Starting today, the new East Falls Church location expands hours to seven days a week.
“[The addition] was something we always wanted to do since we started making our juice out of this kitchen,” says Amir Mostafavi, owner of South Block. “We’ve always wanted to have a micro-juicery where people could come hang out, order juice and just get the full picture of what we’re all about.”
The menu remains the same—juices, smoothies, salads, acai bowls and raw foods—plus there’s nitro coffee on tap, free Wi-Fi and a patio. “It’s a very clean, modern rustic look,” Mostafavi says. “We’re really encouraging people to stay and hang out.”
Tapping into the juicery’s proximity to the cafe, South Block plans for tours of the facility and workshops on topics such as making raw foods and how to cleanse properly. This fall, South Block will open another cafe in Vienna in conjunction with Jammin’ Java.
The Grand Opening Block Party, on July 18, will reward the first 50 customers with a $25 gift card, and the store will be handing out free half-pints of juice from 9-11 a.m. / South Block Café and Micro Juicery, 2121 N. Westmoreland St., Alexandria
