There’s just something about waffles in the winter, right? The perfect waffle must be done just enough, with a bit of a crispy outside and soft and warm inside. A good waffle tastes just as good with maple syrup or strawberries and whipped cream. Here are six options to grab a seriously tasty waffle this season in Northern Virginia.
Founding Farmers
Founding Farmers’ breakfast-a-la-carte offerings at Reston Station include four different types of waffles for every taste: strawberries and cream, bananas foster, Maine blueberry compote, and for those who like things simple, original. The waffles are fluffy with just the tiniest hint of crisp and taste heavenly doused in maple syrup with a dollop of butter. 1904 Reston Metro Plz., Reston
Silver Diner
You can’t have a post about waffles without mentioning Silver Diner. If you’re looking for some fuel to get you going for crisp days, try the Belgian waffle and eggs. It’s served with powdered sugar, whipped butter, and cage-free Amish eggs cooked in any style along with your choice of meat. (Tip: The bacon is deliciously crispy and pairs well with the sweetness of the waffles). Multiple locations
Uncle C’s Chicken & Waffles
Uncle C’s chicken and waffle sandwich brings the ideal mix of sweet and savory. Tender chicken breast is served on mini waffles. If you’re really hungry, you can add home fries, hash browns, or grits to your meal. Uncle C’s was opened in 2021 and founded by Sayed Q. (aka Uncle C), who has roots in Southern cooking. 6308 Richmond Hwy., Alexandria
Bob & Edith’s Diner
Bob & Edith’s is a great place to visit if you’re with a big group of friends with all different tastes. There is something for everyone but the waffles are incredible. What makes them good is that they’re simple and easy and taste just like what your mom or dad made on Christmas morning. Also, if you’re trying to eat somewhat healthier, you’ll be happy to know a multigrain wheat waffle is on the menu. Multiple locations
Metro 29 Diner
Some of you may remember Metro 29 Diner on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives over a decade ago. Their taste of Hollywood has only made it better and the Belgian waffles certainly don’t disappoint. The crisp, golden-brown versions are served with ham, bacon, sausage, or Canadian bacon. If you like your waffles extra sweet, Metro29 also offers waffles with either two scoops of ice cream or strawberries and cream. 4711 Lee Hwy., Arlington
The Pinemoor
The cozy, Southern country style Pinemoor is a great place to grab a bite to eat in Arlington. The restaurant’s brunch menu is offered Saturdays and Sundays, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The eatery’s fried chicken and waffles comes with a maple chicken jus. Don’t forget to pair it with an orange sherbert mimosa for a treat fit for the holiday season. 1101 N. Highland St., Arlington
