50 Best Restaurants 2017: Our Mom Eugenia

A Greek restaurant in Great Falls

Recognize a few items, a few pairings, a few faces?

Nostos lost Eugenia Hobson, a chef, and her son Phil, a server, when the two of them, plus her other son, Alex, decided to open their own Greek restaurant. Our Mom Eugenia is a charming dining room with accents of Greek pop culture paraphernalia, like the vintage record covers from Alex’s 10,000-strong collection.

Silky eggplant blends into softened tomatoes dotted with pine nuts and raisins and topped with feta for a plate proving vegetables can be just as good as they are good for you. Roe is whipped into a pink cloud, light but appropriately fishy, and served with browned pita triangles. Seasoning and sear cover charred lamb chops whose insides remain cuttable with a butter knife. Whole branzino deboned tableside luxuriates in an herby oil, not that a fish cooked this well needs much help.

MISC: Also order octopus, meatballs and saganaki.
