Our pizza battle finished with a bang. After nearly a month of voting, our readers were able to whittle down the field of 32 to select the best pizzeria in Northern Virginia. The Sterling-based pizzeria The Dons’ Wood-Fired Pizza came out victorious in the 2025 NoVA Wars: Pizza Edition.

“We’re thrilled to announce that our family pizzeria has been voted No. 1 in this year’s prestigious Northern Virginia Magazine Pizza War,” says Waleed Zarou, founder of The Dons’. “Huge thanks to our amazing customers and community for their love and support. This win is yours too. Here’s to more delicious moments ahead, from our family to yours!”

In order to win the NoVA Wars: Pizza Edition title, The Dons’ topped La Porchetta Kitchen, Andy’s Pizza, Anthony’s Pizza Kitchen, Ciao Osteria, and Old Dominion Pizza Co.

Since opening in 2005, the family-owned business has become a go-to spot for tasty Neapolitan and New York-style pizzas in Loudoun County. In addition to cheesy pizzas, the eatery’s menu includes oven-baked sandwiches, housemade meatballs, salads, and calzones.

Zarou says the original cheese pie and margherita will “highlight the freshly imported Italian tomato with our blend of herbs, fresh olive oil, and fresh basil.” Other popular pizza orders, include the Sicilian Hit Pizza, which is topped with sausage, pepperoni, meatballs, and ham.

The pizzeria is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday from noon to 8 p.m. 21018 Southbank St., Sterling
