King Arthur Baking Pop-Up Opening in Fairfax

You’ll be able to buy baking ingredients, flours, mixes, tools, and appliances at the store that’s set to open this month.

King Arthur Baking will open a pop-up store in Fairfax on September 16 where it will sell baking ingredients, flours, mixes, tools, and appliances.

The pop-up at 11948 Grand Commons Ave. will run through July 2025 and offer a variety of resources to novice and seasoned bakers.

“We’re thrilled to be coming to Fairfax and hope to inspire more people to bake! Whether it’s chocolate chip cookies from a mix or baguettes from scratch, we want more people to discover the joy of baking with King Arthur,” says Carey Underwood, the company’s director of marketing communications.

King Arthur Baking, the oldest flour company in the U.S., started in 1790. It became an employee-owned company 20 years ago. During the pandemic, it saw demand for its products jump six-fold.

In the last decade, it has expanded its product line to include gluten-free bread flour and bread mix kits. Its Savory Bread Mix Kits hit the market earlier this year, giving people the ability to make garlic bread, soft pretzel bites, focaccia, and flatbread in an hour.

Fast Company recognized King Arthur Baking as the fifth most innovative consumer goods company earlier this year for the regeneratively grown flour blend it created in collaboration with Washington State University’s Breadlab.

The baking firm opened its first pop-up shop in Greenville, South Carolina, for six weeks in November and December 2023.

“After researching the best location to host our second-ever pop-up, we were introduced to the great community of bakers and foodies in Fairfax and knew it would be a great fit,” says Underwood.

She says the Fairfax pop-up will be manned by people from its Vermont flagship location, as well as local staff. Anyone interested in a retail associate position can apply online.

Underwood says King Arthur Baking’s iconic bake truck plans to pop up at events and grocery stores with free baked goods from mid-October through November.

Its Bake for Good program will visit fourth- through seventh-grade classrooms in NoVA “to teach students to learn, bake, and share.” Schools interested in the program can reach out to King Arthur through email at [email protected].

And while it won’t offer baking classes in Fairfax, Underwood says you can take advantage of on-demand classes. For $40 a class, you can learn to make bagels, fruit pies, pizza, and cinnamon buns. Other live online classes are available on specific days and can cost up to $250, depending on the topic.
