Fans of Herndon’s Russia House Restaurant have only a few days to enjoy a Russian meal before it becomes a French restaurant.
Ali and Homeyra Darugar, owners of the restaurant on Pine Street, announced the closing and reopening dates on Facebook.
“Our last of service as Russia House will be Tuesday, July 9th!! We are incredibly grateful for the support and loyalty you have shown us over the past 32 years. From our family to yours, thank you for the countless memories shared within our walls,” the message said. “We look forward to welcoming you to our new chapter.”
The restaurant reopens on July 11 as La Bonne Vie, which means “the good life” in French.
Since they opened the restaurant in 1992, the Darugars have been serving entrées such as Morshiye Grebeshki, seared dry diver scallops in white wine sauce, Russia House Noodles and Caviar, a dish of noodles cooked in a lemon butter sauce with tomato, onion, and cavier, and Kotlety Po-Kievski, chicken Kiev.
They first announced the change in cuisine in June on Facebook.
“At La Bonne Vie, we will be creating a dining experience that celebrates the art of French cooking, using the finest ingredients and time-honored techniques to craft exquisite dishes that transport diners to the streets of Paris,” the June post said, adding “We look forward to welcoming you to experience the flavors of France in a setting that exudes warmth, elegance, and joie de vivre.”
The menu at Le Bonne Vie features traditional French meals, such as coquilles Saint Jacques, chicken paillard, and magret de canard.
The new restaurant plans to offer monthly wine dinners and will be available for private dining and events.
On La Bonne Vie’s website, the Darugars invite diners to “slow down, savor the moment, and indulge in the simple pleasures of good food and good company.”
The restaurant’s hours will remain the same, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
