The Whole Ox Competes on ‘Guy’s Grocery Games’

The Marshall butcher shop is in an episode where chefs compete in a “bodacious burger battle.”

This is a TV show you won’t want to miss next week. The Whole Ox in Marshall competes on the Food Network’s Guy’s Grocery Games show, the butcher shop said in a Facebook post.

The Wednesday, April 10, show airs at 9 p.m. It features a “bodacious burger battle” with four chefs competing for $20,000. The show will air again at midnight on April 11.

Celebrity chef Guy Fieri challenges chefs to quickly make meals while shopping in his Flavortown store. The chefs scamper to find the ingredients they need and have 30 minutes to shop and prepare the meal.

Every episode has a twist or a challenge. It may be that needed ingredients are out of stock or there is a budget or limit to how many ingredients may be used. A panel of three judges decides the winner of each round. The judges are celebrity chefs, restaurateurs, food writers, or cookbook authors. They make their assessment based on taste, gameplay, and plating.

In the first round of the upcoming episode, the chefs make an over-the-top cheeseburger with 10 or fewer items. The chefs with the best scores then “receive a unique 2-for-1 special at the butcher counter — an alternate ground meat plus an unusual produce item — as must-have ingredients,” according to the TV show’s website.

For those who want to see what The Whole Ox offers, the shop is located at 8357 West Main St. in Marshall.

The Whole Ox is just down the street from Field & Main, the winner of Northern Virginia Magazine’s NoVA Wars: Burger Edition, where 32 restaurants face off in a bracket-style competition. Field & Main, which came in fourth on the 2023 Best Restaurants list, picked up the honor for its OooMami Smash Burger.
