Did the photo above make you click? It depicts surti gotalo, a Gujarati egg dish that combines saucy shredded hard-boiled ova with sunny-side-up ones. The meal is a must for egg lovers, but also diners who can’t get enough Indian food. At the center of that Venn diagram lies EggHolic, a franchise that originated in Chicago.
EggHolic’s founders, cousins Bhagyesh and Lay Patel, opened their first location nearly three years ago. Next month, the Patels will bring their Indian egg dishes, typically served in lahris (street carts) in their homeland, to Sully Place Shopping Center. That’s the same strip mall where international cooks and eaters converge at Lotte Plaza Market. There are already five locations of EggHolic, with three more, including the Chantilly store, to come.
Besides surti gotalo, there are 21 other egg-focused entrees on the menu. They include curries, omelets, sandwiches, and rice dishes. There are also vegetarian, paneer, and halal chicken options. Guests will be able to sip a number of sweet drinks, including several plays on the lassi, and diners can finish their meal with a triangle of paan, a betel leaf wrapped around an assemblage of sweets and spices.
EggHolic isn’t the only impending opening we’re excited about in Chantilly. Washington Business Journal recently reported that a Jollibee location inside the former Chantilly Burger King will follow the previously announced Alexandria outpost of everyone’s favorite Filipino fast-food vendor of chicken, spaghetti, and joy. Jollibee hasn’t answered our request for an opening date yet, but we’ll be sure to share it when we hear.
