Caboose Commons Serves Up Socially Distanced Special Occasion Dining

Picnic tables and tents allow for a momentous meal with safety in mind.

We wrote last week about places to celebrate an occasion. If none of those options captured your fancy, Caboose Brewing has just debuted another choice to add to the list. When phase two began, the team at Caboose Commons in Fairfax decided to close down its parking lot to make room for outdoor dining.

“This allows everyone to spread out a bit more,” says Caboose events and marketing manager Courtney Beazell, via an email conversation with Northern Virginia Magazine. “The nice thing about the lot is it almost feels like a totally different restaurant or beer garden aside from what we already have!”

There are tents and picnic tables to allow for distancing and to give some shade to the space. The special-event outdoor dining area, which rolled out earlier this month, is fast becoming a popular stop for birthdays and baby and bridal showers, but Beazell says that it’s even slated to host upcoming weddings.”There is a large amount of space between tables and other groups. We can push tents and tables together if groups are larger,” she explains.

Executive chef David Rabin is happy to put together special tasting menus for diners’ occasions, but they’re also welcome to order from the regular menu. Options include shrimp and grits, curried mussels and ahi tuna poke, as well as sandwiches like a Cubano with smoked pork shoulder and a burger with local beef. Hearty food served with distancing in mind? That’s something to celebrate. //2918 Eskridge Road, Fairfax
