Support the Lebanese Red Cross by Dining at Sheesh Grill

Eating hummus can help people devastated by the Beirut explosions.

By Alice Levitt August 12, 2020 at 8:01 am

Have you been looking for ways to help Beirut following the recent pair of explosions that devastated the city? One of the best ways to contribute from afar is to donate to the Lebanese Red Cross, which is the primary provider of ambulance services in Beirut. You can donate directly to them here, but if you’re looking for supplemental ways to funnel funds to people in need, Sheesh Grill has a plan. From now until Friday, Aug. 21, the restaurant, with locations in Chantilly and Falls Church, will be donating the proceeds of all the hummus it sells to the Lebanese Red Cross.

Diners can go to the restaurants to try the hummus, but they can also order Sheesh Grill for carryout or delivery from partners including Uber Eats, Grubhub, Postmates, DoorDash and ezCater daily from 11:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. The hummus is creamy and nutty, but gets an extra burst of flavor from a topping of roasted garlic.

This isn’t the only news from Sheesh Grill. New executive chef Taraneh Salehi is bringing her Persian culinary heritage to the menu at both locations. “As a political asylee who found a place in my community through the shared experience of cooking, it is a joy to be able to share Persian recipes and my unique perspective with others,” Salehi said in a recent press release. “I am thrilled to lead the Sheesh Grill culinary team, bringing to life our collective goal of making the foods of the Middle East approachable to everyone. I believe wholeheartedly in cooking with fresh ingredients and building sustainable supply chains–things Sheesh Grill has stood for since the beginning.”

Later this month, the Sheesh Grill menu will start to reflect Salehi’s background with dishes including desserts like Persian baklava and rose-flavored Persian ice cream, known as faloodeh. Until then, it’s worth a visit to Sheesh Grill to feel good by doing good. // 13940 Lee Jackson Memorial Highway, Chantilly and 8190 Strawberry Lane, Suite Four, Falls Church
