New Year, New Restaurants: Here’s What to Try in Northern Virginia

Take a bite out of these newly opened eateries in January.

Ring in the new year with a fresh batch of new restaurants that have opened recently in Northern Virginia. The eateries run the gamut, from Thai food to southern comfort. With every day comes a new opportunity for finding your new favorite restaurant.

Alexandria

Narman Restaurant, Cafe and Bar

Drop by this vibrant Turkish restaurant, café, and bar in Old Town Alexandria. Order main dishes like beef or lamb kulbasti, grilled octopus, or Turkish dumplings. The café menu offers pastries, sandwiches, and gelato with coffees and teas. 682 N. St. Asaph St., Alexandria

Bob and Edith’s

This iconic, family-owned diner has been around NoVA for 55 years, and it recently opened its newest location in Alexandria’s Hilltop Village neighborhood. Savor the home-cooked food featured for breakfast, lunch, and dinner at this 24-hour comfort-food destination. 6451 Old Beulah St., Alexandria

Paris Baguette

This carb-centric cafe offers oodles of sweet and savory croissants, pastries, cakes, and tarts to accompany its tasty beverages. Breakfast sandwiches, salads, and wraps round out the menu.  4616 Kenmore Ave., Alexandria

Annandale

Yasijang

Stop by this Korean-style pub specializing in jeon (savory pancakes) and makgeolli (Korean rice wine). The name Yasijang refers to a traditional food market that happens in the evenings — fittingly, this new spot is open late, from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. every day except Mondays. Check out the karaoke room in the back to sing the night away. 7106 Columbia Pike, Annandale

Arlington

Jon’s Joint

Jon’s Joint offers smashburgers, chicken sandwiches and loaded fries. Get your classic fast-food fix at this dine-in, takeout, or delivery location. 250 N. Glebe Rd., Arlington

Centreville

Qata Peruvian Cuisine

This fast-casual Peruvian restaurant opened in late November in the Centreville Square Shopping Center. It offers Peruvian chicken, either rotisserie-style or broaster-style (similar to a bone-in fried chicken), as an entree or a sandwich. Farmside Kitchen

This fast-casual chain from North Carolina has opened its first NoVA location in Chantilly, taking the place of the former Farm Truck Pizza & Greens. The new spot specializes in Americana-style greens and grains bowls, which come in pre-determined combinations or with a build-your-own bowl style. 14385 Newbrook Dr., Ste. 500, Chantilly

Falls Church

Shaghf Cafe

Shaghf is a Dubai-based coffee shop with over 67 branches worldwide. This first DMV location offers hot and cold coffee, tea, and desserts.  3400 B Washington Dr., Falls Church

Blazin Chicken & Gyro

This eatery from New Jersey and New York has expanded to Virginia. Here, visitors can find platters of chicken, lamb, steak, and more, plus sandwiches, loaded salads, burgers, and “munchies” like mozzarella sticks and samosas. 7502 Leesburg Pk., Falls Church

Herndon

TriState Indian Cuisine

At this new Indian restaurant, dig into signature dishes for vegetarians and meat-eaters alike. There’s paneer butter masala, saag chicken, and a tandoori platter. Pair your entree with naan, roti, appetizers, and more. 1230 Elden St., Herndon

Spanky’s Pizza and Subs

Lovettsville

El Pitayo Mexican

This family-owned and -operated Mexican restaurant offers dishes made with family recipes from Jalisco. The menu has fajitas, tacos, enchiladas, and specialties like molcajete el pitao and pollo con chorizo. Can’t decide? Chicken 4U
