Where to Get a Passover Meal to Go in NoVA

Take the pressure of holiday entertaining by ordering classics like matzo ball soup, brisket, and more from area restaurants.

By Maggie Roth March 31, 2023 at 11:43 am

Passover, the Jewish holiday that commemorates the Israelite’s departure from Egypt, begins on Wednesday, April 5. The Seder meal, celebrated on the first day of Passover, features a plate with small portions of six symbolic foods as an important part of the traditional celebration. That’s often accompanied with classic foods like matzo ball soup, gefilte fish, and brisket.

Like any holiday meal, that means a lot of food to prepare, especially if you’re hosting. These local restaurants across the Northern Virginia area offer takeout and catering versions of the Passover meal.

Neighborhood Provisions

Neighborhood Provisions offers a catered Passover meal, to be picked up April 4 and April 5. Customers can choose from a meal of either braised beef brisket or citrus salmon. Each option serves four people, and comes with sides like beet salad and latkes. There are options to get a side of matzo ball soup, as well as a traditional Seder plate, with lamb shank, horseradish, parsley, and boiled egg. 2000 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria

Balducci’s

Gourmet grocery store Balducci’s has a catered dinner for six people. Choose an entrée to set the base price, then make your selections of a starter, three sides, two extras, like cinannamon-scented applesauce or haroset (a combination of fruit and nuts), plus a dessert. 600 Franklin St., Alexandria; 6655 Old Dominion Dr., McLean

Celebrity Delly

This Falls Church deli has been providing catering for Jewish holidays for nearly 50 years. The Passover menu serves a minimum of five people. The menu boasts having DC’s “most famous matzo ball soup,” and protein options include a three-hour braised brisket and a four-hour roasted turkey. On the side, try slow-cooked tzimmes, a sweet mixture of fruit and vegetables with honey and cinnamon. 7263-A Arlington Blvd., Falls Church

Chutzpah Deli

Chutzpah Deli, a “real New York deli” in Fairfax, serves up plenty of options for a Passover meal to go. The order form on the deli’s website allows you to check off the options you want: mini sweet potato or pecan latkes by the dozen, matzo balls by the piece, and four choices for entrées. Once you’ve chosen, drop off the form at the deli before April 1. 12214 Fairfax Towne Center, Fairfax

Call Your Mother

Outside of NoVA, Call Your Mother has an inventive take on the Passover meal with Passover tacos. The deli, known for their New York-style bagels, has tacos with fillings of brisket and pastrami, cauliflower and latkes, or a mix of both, then load them up with toppings. Finish it off with a sweet pecan matzo brittle for dessert. The pre-order deadline is April 1. Multiple locations
