Edible Outtakes: Noteworthy bites, sips and sundry

This month try wine-quality raisins, tres leches from a plastic cup and sustainable proteins aka crickets.

I haven’t snacked on raisins since I was a kid, but RayZyns made me reconsider. The Wine RayZyn Company uses wine-specific grapes—cabernet, merlot and chardonnay–and keeps the seed in for crunch and a dose of antioxidants.

Served out of a plastic cup and layered like a parfait, the tres leches at La Mexicana Bakery & Taqueria remains the best version of this classic dessert.

In a win for maximalism: French Bull’s new line of pie plates and pie servers.

We’re not milk drinkers at my house, which is why I never make French toast. That is, until I used leftover coconut milk instead. Now, the bready weekend treat is as easy as opening the pantry.

I try to respect the concept of free samples at stores and take one bite and move on, but the rich, luscious, French triple-cream cheese Le Delice de Bourgogne served with Bistro Savory Wafers at Gentle Harvest in Marshall, forced me to abandon all sense of decency and go back for fourths and fifths.

Crowd your kitchen drawers with weird utensils, like this one from Rösle.

MOM’s Organic Market in Del Ray sells sustainable proteins, aka crickets, in flavors such as honey mustard, barbecue and “Moroccan,” for about $80 per pound.
