Saturday (August 26) is National Dog Day. In honor of the pup-loving holiday, here are five canines ready to find their forever homes.

Meet Nutmeg
The snuggly, house-trained Nutmeg is deaf but does not let that hold her back. She relies on visual cues and knows several commands like sit, down, stay, paw, wave, and drop it. She loves to learn and needs a home that will be committed to fulfilling her physical and mental stimulation needs. She loves playing with other dogs but will need to be her family’s only dog at home. She is young and energetic, and sometimes doesn’t realize her size. She would do best in a home with children ages 12 and older, or adults only. Nutmeg is available through Lost Dog & Cat Rescue Foundation.

Meet Max and JR
This friendly duo came to Loudoun County Animal Services from the same home. Ideally, they’d love to find a home together. Max is 7 years old with a brindle coat and JR is 12 years old with big eyes that will melt your heart. They love to meet new people, take naps, attend county fairs, and run around a nice backyard.

Meet Kaiti
Kaiti, 4, is a sweet, smart, and spunky hound available at Homeward Trails Animal Rescue. She loves being around people, responds to commands, and appreciates a good belly rub and ear scratch. She’s a big fan of chasing tennis balls and would enjoy an active family who likes to go on walks or hikes. Kaiti would be great in a home with no children under 16 and no other dogs.

Meet Prince
The handsome Prince is a striking, all-white dog with a black button nose and curled tail. Only 1-year-old, he can be a bit shy when meeting new people, but once he gets more acquainted, he’s a very sweet dog. Since Prince is young, he would do best with a home with a yard or an active individual to take him on walks, runs, or other outdoor adventures. He is smart and has already caught on to multiple training cues. Continued training would be best to keep Prince mentally stimulated. Available at The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria, he would be a loyal and loving companion with the right match.
