Each month, we feature a dog and cat who are currently available for adoption at a local animal shelter. For August, we’re happy to introduce you to Honey the dog and Bentley the cat.
Dog of the Month: Meet Honey
Honey is a 6-year-old female terrier shepherd mix. She certainly lives up to her name, as she loves snuggling with friends and playing training games (she’s a treat-motivated dog!). And, she loves to smile. Honey has already learned “sit” and “down” and the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (where she currently is) is certain she can learn even more skills.
Honey is a big walker and would be interested in an exercise buddy to match her toe to paw. She is currently staying with one of the AWLA’s foster caregivers, who is happy to report that Honey is a sweetheart in the home. Her adoption fees have already been prepaid by a generous donor, so she is just waiting to be scooped up and become a permanent part of a family.
To learn more about Honey or schedule time to meet her, email adopt@alexandriaanimals.org or call 703-746-4774 (option 2).
Cat of the Month: Meet Bentley
Homeward Trails Animal Rescue created a playful backstory to sum up Bentley’s personality. They said he spent years at sea as a fisherman in New England, but is retired now. He doesn’t like to just sit at home and watch The Price is Right, so he volunteers at his local library. He is a responsible roommate who won’t leave a mess. To keep things interesting, he allows himself one strawberry candy each night.
In all seriousness, Bentley is a sweet cat who will crawl into laps and nuzzle you for more pets. He loves toys and is OK with other cats, but is also open to being in a home where he’s the only cat.
Bentley can be met at Crumbs & Whiskers, a Georgetown cat café. For more information and to learn how to book time with him, visit crumbsandwhiskers.com.
