A new pop-up kitten lounge is debuting this spring in DC’s Georgetown neighborhood.
Set to open in early March, the pop-up is from the same team behind the cat café brand Crumbs & Whiskers, where guests get to interact with adult cats.
The new experience will allow patrons to come into the lounge and cuddle with kittens, encouraging relaxation and interaction with adoptable cats.
The Kitten Lounge has the goal of initiating 500 kitten adoptions from March to July, in partnership with Homewards Trails Animal Rescue. It will feature kittens 3-6 months old.
During the spring, there is an influx of stray kittens in the country, known as “kitten season,” which overloads animal shelters nationwide.
Every year, over 860,000 cats are euthanized in shelters due to lack of space. The pop-up lounge sees itself as serving as a foster home for kittens that would otherwise be at risk of euthanasia.
The Kitten Lounge will be located at 3109 M St., NW, and will be open six days a week. Sign-ups for reservations are now live on Crumbs & Whiskers website, with booking preference going to those already on the waiting list, then to the general public.
