Learn Something New at These 5 Northern Virginia Adult Education Centers

These 5 locations offer a variety of classes, including language, crafts, fitness, and job skills.

If you’ve always wanted to have a go at something new, Northern Virginia offers many classes for adults. With flexible days and times, there’s no excuse to not attempt woodworking, a new craft, or perhaps finally get that GED.

Pimmit Hills Center

Fall offerings from Fairfax County Public Schools Adult and Community Education (FCPS ACE) at Pimmit Hills Center include a woodworking class for those who are hobbyists all the way to professional level. A specific woodturning class that runs once on October 15 has students make their own holiday ornament. There are also classes to make your own wood turned box or platter. 7510 Lisle Ave., Falls Church

Plum Center

Crafty adults will love the FCPS ACE classes at Plum Center in Springfield. Knitting 101 gives you all the knitting basics, or if you already have some experience, there is a two-time, three-hour scarf knitting class in September. Students can also knit matching mittens in October with a similar class. 6815 Edsall Rd., Springfield

Arlington Community Learning

There are multiple offerings in subjects from languages to writing to art. You can learn American Sign Language at a basic level all the way through level 3. Art classes include holiday mosaics, fresh flower arranging, pottery, smartphone photography, and more. You can even try your hand at stand-up comedy and improv. Various locations

Prince William County Public Schools Adult Education Offerings

Marshall Center

Open to Spotsylvania County residents age 55 and older, the center offers classes in line dancing, pickleball, and tai chi for active seniors. For those who prefer to take a class that’s a bit more laid-back, there’s a quilts and crafts class on Tuesdays, canasta Mondays and Wednesdays, and of course the quintessential bingo on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month. 8800 Courthouse Rd., Spotsylvania Courthouse
