Spring Animal Encounters
April 4, 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
All ages are welcome to come to Potomac Overlook Regional Park between 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to interact with local wildlife — and learn about them too. A NOVA Parks roving naturalist will be on hand to chat about the animals. All ages are welcome and no registration is required. 2845 Marcey Rd., Arlington

Family Story Time at Central Library
April 7, 10:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
Central Library in Arlington hosts family story times for children up to age 5, along with an accompanying adult. The next one will be the morning of April 7. In addition to the story, the interactive program includes songs, rhymes, and more. Children can practice their listening skills and check out additional books in the library. 1015 N. Celebrate Reston
April 18, noon to 4 p.m.
Celebrate Reston, which is free to the public, will include a book fair with local authors, live performances, walking tours, and other activities. Lake Anne Plaza will play host to the event, which will also include vendors and local artists. 1609 Washington Plaza N., Reston

Earth Day Every Day on Langston Boulevard
Sunday April 26, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The annual free event in front of the Lee Heights Shops is now in its fifth year. There will be live music, children’s activities, and the Arlington Library Truck will be making the rounds. It also features food and drink vendors as well as an art market with dozens of local artisans. The event is funded yearly through private donations and sponsorships. 4500-4550 Cherry Hill Rd., Arlington
Visit Trailside Park in Herndon
7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
With a skate park for older kids and large playground for little ones, as well as an open play area and bocce court, Trailside Park is a free kid-friendly option for spending the afternoon. While visiting the park is free, there is a fee for shelter reservations. 1022 Crestview Dr., Herndon

Visit Mason Neck State Park
7 a.m. to dusk
The family-friendly Mason Neck State Park is perfect for little ones. The Wilson Spring and Bayview trails are around 2 miles, ideal for those with short attention spans and little legs. Kids will love winding through swamps and forests, using their imaginations as they wander. 7301 High Point Rd., Lorton
