Spring break has arrived. For those looking to save some money while navigating this often-busy time of year, try these free things to do and free events across Northern Virginia. There are egg hunts, a crafty afternoon, and lots of opportunities to get out and enjoy nature.
Visit Government Island
Through October 31, daily 8 a.m.–8 p.m.
Take the family to visit the quarry where some of the country’s most famous buildings were born. Sandstone from the site was used to make the U.S. Capitol and White House. Take Part in an Eggstravaganza with National Community Church
March 23, 10 a.m.–noon

Enjoy a Spring Break Crafternoon

Head to the Cherry Hill Park Easter Egg Hunt
March 30, 9:15 a.m.
Children ages 1 to 11 are welcome at this free event, but they need to bring their own baskets. The egg hunt begins promptly at 10 a.m. and a magic show follows at 10:30 a.m. There are also opportunities for a photo with Mr. and Mrs. Bunny, games, and crafts. 312 Park Ave., Falls Church
Wander Art Blooms at Mosaic
April 6 and 7, 11 a.m.–6 p.m.
Enjoy this free event to usher in spring. URBNmarket will be home to handmade items from 90 vendors. There will be a games corner for kids, fresh produce, and snacks from FRESHFARM, live music from the Vienna singing Princesses and The Cassaday Concoction, and even spring-themed selfie stations. Have an adventure at the Bluebell Festival at Merrimac Farm

Check out the Solar Eclipse
April 8, 2–4 p.m.
The Rosslyn BID is celebrating the 2024 total solar eclipse with music, lawn games, and, of course, viewing the eclipse in Gateway Park. 1300 Langston Blvd., Arlington
Visit Clemyjontri Park
Open 7 a.m.–dusk
The park is a place where children of all abilities can play. Those with wheelchairs, walkers, braces, and sensory or developmental disabilities are welcome to explore the colorful park.
