The College of Charleston has promoted Sam Gjormand to a Division I baseball general manager position. The Vienna native becomes the first female general manager and the second person to hold the position in the history of Division I baseball.
“I am grateful to be a part of coach Holbrook’s staff, and for the expanded opportunity he has trusted me with to serve the program,” Gjormand said in a school release.
“Sam has proven to be invaluable to our baseball program,” said head coach Chad Holbrook. “She is simply great at her job and these new responsibilities will only make our program much better.”
Gjormand spent four seasons as a student manager at James Madison University. She also spent a summer as the assistant to the GM and MLB scout liaison for the Wareham Gateman in the Cape Cod League.
She was hired in 2021 as a coach and recruiter before promoted to director of operations for the program. Gjormand will manage all fundraising events and NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) opportunities in her new role, while continuing to coordinate travel accommodations and the program’s budget.
She’s currently one of only 31 females on a Division I baseball staff, a ground-breaking moment not only for Division I collegiate baseball, but for women in the sports industry.
