Traffic Alert: Be Aware of Lane Closures on I-495 Near Tysons

The lane and ramp closures are scheduled from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. through March 1.

By Debbie Williams February 18, 2025 at 11:54 am

VDOT is alerting drivers of evening lane closures and intermittent traffic stoppages near Tysons. The ramp and lane closures affect the I-495 Capital Beltway northbound in Virginia between Route 7 and north of the Dulles Toll Road.

Ramps will be closed and traffic detoured nightly at eastbound Dulles Toll Road/Dulles Airport Access Highway to Northbound I-495 during overnight hours through March 1. The ramp from eastbound Dulles Toll Road/Airport Access Highway (Route 267) to northbound I-495 will also be closed nightly.

VDOT says these alterations are needed for crews to continue working on a new 495 express lanes ramp at the I-495 and Dulles Corridor interchange. The lane and ramp closures will be in effect from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next day.

Drivers affected by the ramp closure from eastbound Dulles Toll Road/Airport Access Highway (Route 267) to northbound I-495 are instructed to take this detour:

  • Exit onto I-495 South using Exit 18A to Richmond
  • Take Exit 46B for Route 123/Chain Bridge Road North
  • Continue in ramp-lane and immediately merge onto I-495 North

VDOT says that inclement weather or other delays may prolong the construction timeframe. Drivers are urged to use caution and expect potential delays if traveling through this area.

Traffic, work zone, and incident information is available online at 511.vdot.virginia.gov, on the mobile app, or by calling 511. You can also visit 495next.vdot.virginia.gov for the latest construction and lane closure information.
