A new attraction is coming soon to Kings Dominion in Doswell, and it’s one that thrill-seekers won’t want to miss. Rapterra, the world’s tallest and longest launched wing coaster, will open in 2025 as part of the Doswell amusement park’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
“This extraordinary addition promises new thrills for our guests, making it the perfect centerpiece for our 50th anniversary celebration and reaffirming why Kings Dominion is the ultimate destination for unforgettable memories and exhilarating excitement,” said Bridgette Bywater, vice president and general manager of Kings Dominion.
Thematically, the ride tells the story of an ancient shrine to “the mighty Jungle Hawk” that was buried under a volcanic explosion and later rediscovered by archaeologists. “The bird’s ferocious spirit remains at the site, launching brave riders to exhilarating new heights,” the ride’s website says.
Rapterra promises an “intense initial launch” with an acceleration from 0 to 65 miles per hour in the span of four seconds, sending riders up to heights of 145 before plunging them down again. It’s the beginning of a series of heart-pumping twists, turns, and dives.
The winged design places riders next to the track, with a floorless structure intended to give the sensation of flying.
Rapterra is 3,086 feet long, with three inversions: a dive loop, a flat spin corkscrew, and a 360-degree raptor roll. In all, the ride lasts 89 seconds.
Construction on Rapterra is underway, and Kings Dominion expects that the ride will be complete by fall.
Guests can also now purchase the 2025 Gold Season Pass for unlimited visits and free parking throughout the rest of the 2024 and 2025 seasons. It’s currently on sale for $95.
Kings Dominion is located at 16000 Theme Park Way in Doswell.
