Demolition Begins at Site of City Centre West in Old Town Fairfax

The future seven-story development will include condos built by Ox Hill Companies.

Progress on building City Centre West in Fairfax is being made now that the former Oud Resto and Hall has been demolished.

The site of the Main Street restaurant that burned down in 2020 is where Ox Hill Companies will build a seven-story mixed-use development with condos, retail spaces, and a drive-thru bank. The company said a Truist Bank regional branch will be relocated to the new building.

The demolition of 10501 Main St., a former bank, and the restaurant at 10515 Main St. occurred last week, and the company celebrated with a party at the Country Club of Fairfax.

The final demolition phase will involve razing an office building at 10523 Main St.

The plan for the 210,029-square-foot City Centre West development, set to be complete in 2026, calls for 79 condominiums and penthouses, 8,500 square feet of medical offices, and 28,200 square feet of commercial space, plus the bank, ground-floor retail and restaurants, and a park that will be called Corner Public Plaza Park.

The condos will be one-, two-, and three-bedroom units with terraces. Ox Hill Residences will be the first ever-ever residences Ox Hill has built in Old Town Fairfax.

New York designer, Thomas Juul-Hanson, will design the condos with architect Davis Carter Scott.

“We are trying to design a building that is trying to design a building that fits in with the context of buildings that are 200 years old,” Juul-Hanson said on a YouTube video about the project.

Douglas Elliman will be the exclusive seller.

Ox Hill said in a release that the mixed-use development is “poised to infuse new energy into Fairfax City.”

“We are greatly appreciative for the support shown by the community in Fairfax, and we look forward to continuing our work on City Centre West and delivering a project that will enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors here,” said Chris Smith, managing principal of Ox Hill Companies.

This summer, Ox Hill said it hopes to win approval for a 3.5-acre development on University Drive and Chain Bridge Road that includes an upscale hotel run by one of the top five hotel chains. The plan submitted to the city calls for a multi-phase project with “a concert hall and black box theater, hotel with conference center, art gallery, retail and restaurants with structured parking,” according to plans posted on the city government’s website.
