The Esposito’s, an Italian restaurant that has operated in Fairfax City since 1982, will permanently close after this weekend, FFXnow reported.
Owner Maria Esposito told FFXnow that she was told on February 28 that the building had sold, and she had two weeks to vacate, though it was not her choice to close. Sunday, March 10, is the final day the restaurant will be open.
The restaurant is located at 9917 Fairfax Blvd., the same site where the Fairfax City Council is considering a request for a special use permit to redevelop the space into a Tommy’s Express Car Wash.
The 1.15-acre site currently holds the restaurant and vacant retail space. The proposal seeks to redevelop the lot and build a 4,553-square-foot car wash. It would include a single-lane tunnel with three stacking lanes and 15 self-serve vacuum stations.
Walsh, Colucci, Lubeley & Walsh submitted the application for the car wash on behalf of private equity firm Olympus Pines in August 2023, after requesting a pre-application briefing in 2021.
The city council held a briefing on the proposal in April 2022, followed by a Board of Architectural Review work session in December 2023 and a City Council work session on January 9.
A public hearing has not yet been scheduled.
