Manhunt on for Ambulance Thief in Fairfax County

The man police are looking for had been one of five taken to the hospital after a crash off U.S. 50.

By Colleen Kelleher February 20, 2024 at 9:22 am

Fairfax County police are searching for a Manassas man who, while in a hospital gown with an IV still in his arm, stole a private ambulance at Inova Fairfax Hospital Monday night.

Police identified the man as Rickey Lowe, 32, according to ABC7 and WUSA9.

He ditched the ambulance in Annandale about 2 miles from the hospital. Police Monday night were in the 4200 block of Annandale Road looking for him. Police describe him as a 300-pound Black man with a beard, shaved head, and tattoos.

Anyone who sees him is asked to call 911.

The man, police said on social media, had been receiving treatment following a crash on U.S. 50 near the Interstate 66 exit in Fair Oaks earlier in the day.

NBC4 Washington video of the crash showed the stolen car going airborne. Five people were injured, and two sustained life-threatening injuries.

The police said the car had been stolen from a home in Manassas when the owner left it running with the keys in the ignition, Fox 5 reported.

Fairfax County police found two firearms and drugs in the car at the crash scene and said they were not pursuing the car at the time of the crash.
