Investigators on Monday continue to investigate Friday night’s deadly house explosion in Sterling, and efforts are underway to help those affected.
The explosion that occurred as firefighters were investigating a gas leak at a home in the 300 block of Silver Ridge Drive killed Trevor Brown, 45, a volunteer firefighter with the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company and father of three who had been with the fire company since 2016. Another 12 people — 10 first responders and two civilians — sustained injuries. As of Sunday, several people remained hospitalized.
For those who want to help Brown’s family, you can donate to the Loudoun First Responders Foundation. Add “Brown Family” to the memo line. The nonprofit fund provides funds to help first responders in times of need.
People who want to express their condolences may email [email protected], and the county will share those messages. Donations of goods and services are being coordinated through that email address.
A GoFundMe fundraising campaign also has been set up for Kelley Woods, the woman who lost her home and everything she owned in the explosion. The fund, as of Monday morning, has raised over $57,000.
The Sterling house explosion is believed to be propane-related, involving a leaking 500-gallon underground propane tank. At a Saturday news conference, Chief Keith Johnson said the propane had migrated into the home.
“We can assume it was propane-related, but no complete cause has been initiated,” he said.
