Three Virginia towns – Warrenton, Chincoteague, Cape Charles – are among the 150 best small towns to visit in the U.S. this year, according to a survey by Family Destinations Guide.
Warrenton, in Fauquier County, ranked No. 82 on the list of 150 towns named by the website that offers kid-friendly vacation ideas.
The highest ranking for a Virginia town was Chincoteague at No. 7. Cape Charles was No. 37.
Family Destinations Guide polled 3,000 families across the nation to come up with its list.
“Visiting small towns has become increasingly popular as travelers seek authentic and personalized experiences that provide a break from the fast-paced, commercialized world,” said Rose Ackermann, the website’s executive editor, in a news release.
“These hidden gems offer a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the local culture, connect with friendly communities, and escape the stress of everyday life.”
The top town on the list was Holualoa, Hawaii, followed by Ely, Nevada, and Anna Maria Island, Florida.
