Pedestrian Killed at Bailey’s Crossroads After Being Struck by Two Cars

The first driver stopped in a parking lot to call for help. Before rescue personnel could arrive, the victim was struck by a second vehicle.

A pedestrian died Wednesday night after being struck by multiple vehicles near Carlin Springs Road in the Bailey’s Crossroads area, according to Fairfax County Police.

Elise Ballard, 40, is believed to have been crossing Leesburg Pike outside of the crosswalk when she was struck by a westbound 2017 Infiniti QX60, the FCPD’s Crash Reconstruction Unit determined.

The driver of the Infiniti subsequently stopped in a nearby parking lot to call for help. Before rescue personnel could arrive, Ballard was reportedly struck by a second vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police closed the westbound lanes into Thursday morning to assess the crash. Speeding or alcohol are not believed to have factored into the incident, officials said.

The incident marks the fifth pedestrian death FCPD has announced this month. There have been 17 fatal crashes involving pedestrians in the county this year, up from 11 in 2021.

Fairfax County Police are encouraging anyone with information about the crash to contact the department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit at 703-280-0543. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through the Crime Solvers platform at 1-866-411-8477 or via this link.

Additional details were not immediately available due to the active nature of the investigation.
