From the Return of ‘Young Sheldon’ to a Local Indie-Pop Hit, the Best Shows, Songs, and Books by Northern Virginians this Month

NoVA-related books and movies that caught our eyes and ears.

It’s time to put away those summer reads, shows, and songs and discover releases for the new season. If you’re stumped as to what to add to your TBR pile or Spotify playlist, take a look at the latest from these NoVA natives.

Book

Lucky Streak by Tif Marcelo

Hitting bookstores on September 27 is the latest romance novel from this USA Today bestselling author from NoVA. This young couple has a second chance at love when they become next-door neighbors five years after a Vegas fling. While the flame is still there, the two have to smooth out a rivalry between their families if they ever want their relationship to succeed.

Music

“Ghost Town” by Elizabeth Lane

If you haven’t been streaming this catchy indie-pop release on repeat this summer, you are definitely missing out. A perfect addition to your road-trip playlist, Lane’s single marks the Alexandria teen’s first song with local record company Baffin Records.

Book

Mr. Perfect on Paper by Jean Meltzer

The author of The Matzah Ball, and NoVA resident is back with her second novel. This time, the story follows Dana, the creator of a Jewish dating app who has trouble finding her own perfect match. While she tries to follow her checklist for “The Perfect Jewish Husband,” Dana realizes not everything seems as perfect as it is on paper.

Book

Round Up the Usual Peacocks by Donna Andrews

The 31st installment of the Meg Langslow mystery series is now on shelves. Coming from the mind of the Reston author, the latest mystery ropes in Meg’s nephew Kevin when a member of his true-crime podcast team has a brush with death. As Meg prepares for a wedding, she has to search the town to see who has it out for the local podcasters.

TV Show

Young Sheldon

Make sure to set a reminder for the return of CBS’ Young Sheldon on September 29. Arlington’s own Iain Armitage returns to the screen to reprise his role as Sheldon Cooper. The season five finale left plenty of cliff-hangers, so viewers won’t want to miss the Cooper family troubles as Sheldon readies for his second year of college.
