Grab your passport: A number of international destinations will soon be more convenient. These new nonstop flights depart from Washington Dulles International Airport and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI).
Dulles
San Salvador
Frontier Airlines added daily nonstop service to San Salvador, the capital of El Salvador, in late 2025. The route reflects strong demand from the region, driven in part by the large Salvadoran population in the DC metro area. It also offers leisure travelers easy access to El Salvador’s impressive architecture, volcanic landscapes, and growing culinary scene.
Halifax and Quebec City
United Airlines is adding weekly nonstop Saturday flights to two Canadian cities beginning May 23. The routes make it easier to reach two very different Canadian escapes. Halifax, the capital of Nova Scotia, is a welcoming city known for its maritime history, bustling boardwalk, and seafood scene. Quebec City, Canada’s oldest city, has more of a European charm, with cobblestone streets, French architecture, and romantic bistros. Both flights are seasonal, catering to peak summer travel.
Taiwan (in the works)
No set flights have been announced yet, but it’s been reported that the Washington Metropolitan Airports Authority (MWAA) is pursuing direct service from Dulles to Taiwan. A new partnership between Taoyuan International Airport Corp. and MWAA “represents a great step forward in strengthening our global connectivity,” said MWAA executive vice president and chief revenue officer Chryssa Westerlund in a statement. If this happens, it would be one of the longest nonstop flights out of Dulles, at more than 15 hours in the air.
BWI
St. Thomas
Southwest Airlines launched daily service to this U.S. Virgin Islands destination on February 7. The wallet-friendly flights to the picturesque Caribbean island are about four hours from Baltimore and available to book now. The route is part of Southwest’s broader Caribbean growth that includes service to St. Thomas from both Baltimore and Orlando.
St. Maarten
Southwest will begin seasonal weekend service from BWI to Princess Juliana International Airport in St. Maarten starting April 7. The Saturday and Sunday flights to this Caribbean destination that’s nicknamed “The Friendly Island” marks the airline’s first new international destination launch since 2021. In addition to strengthening its international presence, Southwest has made other major announcements recently, including ending its open seating format and its free checked bags policy.
