Former Reality Star to Challenge Mark Warner for Senate Seat

Mark Moran announced his campaign this week.

A former star from HBO Max reality dating show FBoy Island has announced a Senate campaign in Virginia. Mark Moran will be challenging Sen. Mark Warner, who has been in his role since 2009.

Moran grew up in McLean and lives in Falls Church. Before his 2021 appearance on the first season of FBoy Island, he worked as a Wall Street investment banker.

In a video announcing his campaign, Moran said, “I’m running as a Democrat for the United States Senate because nothing in this country seems to work anymore.”

The campaign launch focused on affordability issues. “You can’t afford a house, neither can I. You can’t afford an education. I know what that’s like. In Virginia, we can barely afford our electric bills,” he said.

Moran’s campaign website lists top priorities, including an idea to tax data centers to fund public education. Other issues include making homeownership more affordable and goals to abolish “the surveillance state” and ICE. He also promised not to take campaign funds from “AIPAC (or any foreign country),” billionaires, or corporate PACs.

There is not yet a date for a primary election. There hasn’t been a primary election for this seat since 1996, ARLNow reported.
