Maryland Dog Missing for Nearly 3 Years Found in Fairfax, Reunited with Owners

The dog was found at a Fairfax County construction site.

This hound’s escape story has a happy ending. After going missing for almost three years, a Maryland dog, Chase, was reunited with his owners.

Fairfax County Animal Shelter posted on social media that Chase had been located running around a county constriction site. Luckily, the dog was microchipped, and the shelter was able to contact Chase’s owners.

Chase went missing in March 2023. “His family wasn’t sure how he managed to get out of the house, but knew they had to find him! They searched high and low with no traces of him. Then, almost three years after he disappeared, his mom received an email from our team: Chase found his way to us and was waiting for her!” Fairfax County Animal Shelter posted.

The shelter noted that, “without a microchip, Chase’s reunion would not have been possible. Microchips are one of the most reliable methods of reuniting a pet with their family.”

If you are interested in microchipping your pet, the shelter offers bi-monthly vaccine and microchip clinics. The next clinic is January 23 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Lorton campus at 8875 Lorton Rd. The clinics are walk-up so there is no pre-registration or appointment required. They are open to both dogs and cats.
