The suspect in an attempted bank robbery was fatally shot by Loudoun County deputies on Tuesday, January 6. He was later identified as Conner Pelzter, 30, of Sterling.

According to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, detectives, deputies, and special agents from the FBI located Peltzer in the Walmart parking lot in Leesburg on Tuesday just before noon. As they approached the vehicle, Peltzer exited with a firearm, causing deputies to shoot.

Peltzer was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. No deputies were injured during the incident.

The shooting incident comes the day after LCSO deputies opened an investigation on an attempted robbery in Sterling. On Monday, January 5 at 3:45 p.m., deputies responded to an attempted bank robbery at the Bank of America located at Dulles Crossing in Sterling. During this incident, the suspect allegedly threatened to use explosives. Both the building and surrounding areas were marked as safe after a thorough search.

Both the attempted robbery and shooting incidents remain under investigation.

The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information to contact Detective Mitchell at 703-777-1021, call anonymously through Loudoun County Crime Solvers at 703-777-1919. Tips can also be submitted in the LCSO app.
