McLaren Driver Charged with Reckless Driving in Fiery Beltway Crash

Virginia State Police have charged the driver in the violent crash that injured three people.

By Debbie Williams October 1, 2025 at 10:05 am

According to Virginia State Police, multiple people were driving recklessly on the 1-495 Beltway near Braddock Road on Sunday night. This resulted in the driver of 2020 McLaren 720S sideswiping a 2000 Honda Pilot SUV.

The impact caused the Pilot to overturn multiple times. The Pilot driver, Rosa M. Rivera Orellana, 37, of Fairfax, was wearing a seatbelt. She suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital.

VSP said that after sideswiping the Pilot, the McLaren struck something on Interstate 495 and went over the guardrail. The car landed on South Van Dorn Street below. Both occupants of the McLaren were ejected and the vehicle caught fire. Two state troopers who arrived on scene were able to pull the passenger who was near the burning vehicle to safety.

The McLaren driver, George W. Shuey IV, 36, of Burke, and his passenger, Eren Demir, 23, suffered serious injuries. Neither were wearing a seat belt.  Shuey now faces a reckless driving charge, and VSP say additional charges are pending.

Fairfax County Fire and EMS assisted in transporting the injured passengers to area hospitals. VSP says the crash remains under investigation.
