Starting today, the extensively used gas station at Fair Oaks Costco is temporarily closed to allow construction for an expansion. According to the notices printed near the checkout lines, the existing pumps are predicted to be closed for around 48 days and will likely reopen around early September.
“The warehouse will remain open during this timeframe,” the notice says, FFXNow reported. “We appreciate your continued patronage and hope that providing advance notice of this closure will help alleviate the inconvenience caused to our valued members.”
This store is located at 247 W. Ox Rd., Fairfax. It will only impact the gas station, and the store will continue to operate as normal.
As stated in a Fairfax County report, Costco’s planned expansion will double its original gas station size, adding another 14 fueling stations or seven pumps. This gives the location a total of 30 fueling stations or 15 pumps.
According to the county staff report, the added gas pumps will remove 16 parking spaces. However, there will still be a total of 797 spaces to serve both Home Depot and Costco. Costco also agreed to put in three spaces with Level 3 electric vehicle charging stations.
A study authorized by Costco estimated the expansion will bring about 213 to 228 new vehicles during peak hours, FFXNow reported. However, the new pumps will help reduce queuing.
The company commented that it would have a traffic attendant on site to direct traffic, with additional staff shown when needed.
The closest gas station is the Sunoco station near the 7-Eleven or the Exxon in Fair Lakes. There are other area Costcos in Chantilly, Manassas, Springfield, and Woodbridge.
