Woodbridge’s Brew Republic Bierworks Is Closing This Month

After nearly nine years in operation in Woodbridge, Brew Republic Bierworks has announced it will permanently close at the end of July. The brewpub’s last day open will be July 27, with a closing party scheduled for July 25 to 27.

Brew Republic Bierworks is located in Stonebridge at Potomac Town Center, at 15201 Potomac Town Pl., Woodbridge.

In its closure announcement, Brew Republic said this decision was because the landlord had terminated its lease. It said that the cost of relocation and the “distressed nature of the brewery and restaurant industries” contributed to the decision to close permanently.

The shopping center was purchased by real estate investment trust Kimco in 2023. Brew Republic said it had a difficult working relationship with its new landlord.

“They made it clear almost from the moment they purchased our shopping center that they wanted us gone,” Brew Republic said.

It continued on to say that, while it has had “generally stable” business, “we haven’t performed at a high enough level as to be able justify paying double the rent our landlord is demanding to let us stay, or to afford the million-dollars-plus for a relocation.”

The announcement also cited a poor business environment for restaurants and breweries, as well as challenges finding employees. “This isn’t the opportunity-rich environment breweries had experienced in 2016 when we opened,” it said.

Stonebridge at Potomac Town Center declined to comment on the matter.

You Still Have Time to Visit

Until its closure on July 27, it will be open with normal hours. According to the email, the business brewed its final batch of Brew Republic beer in mid-June and has “a whole lot” left. There are also to-go cans available.

“We’ll have food, fun, alcohol, and A LOT of beer we need to get rid of – so stop by, eat, drink and be merry while celebrating 9 years of the Republic,” it said.

The closing party, set for July 25 to 27, will have karaoke, live music, and drinks throughout the weekend. Tickets are online at Eventbrite. There are free general admission passes, as well as an option to purchase a $50 voucher for $43.45 or a $100 voucher for $81.88.
