Police ID Pedestrian Killed in Hybla Valley

Fairfax County police are continuing to investigate now that they say they know who the hit-and-run driver is.

By Colleen Kelleher September 30, 2024 at 8:56 am

Fairfax County police identified the pedestrian killed in a hit-and-run crash on Thursday as James Matthew Martin, 57.

The crash occurred as Martin he crossed Richmond Highway at Woodlawn Trail in Hybla Valley outside a crosswalk during Thursday morning’s rainy rush hour, police said.

He died at the scene when a driver of a Toyota Camry struck him at 6:46 a.m. Police did not identify Martin’s hometown in announcing his identity.

Fairfax County police said they identified the driver who left the scene and are working to determine whether speed and alcohol played a role in the crash.

Anyone who saw or knows anything about the crash is asked to call the Crash Reconstruction Unit at 703-280-0543.
