Adding office space in Fairfax County is not something you currently hear about as office vacancies rise, but Boston Properties wants to see the next phase of Reston Town Center have more offices, the Washington Business Journal reports.
The company filed documents with the county that would add 45 percent more new office space, or 930,000 square feet, to what’s already received approval. The filings acknowledge the current office climate and said it would be “a unique proposal in Fairfax County during a time when the office market is undergoing significant contractions,” according to the Washington Business Journal.
Boston Properties wants to redevelop two nine-story buildings from the 1980s on Sunset Hills Road and add five new buildings to the site across from the Reston Town Center Metro station.
Overall vacancies in the Reston are just under 27 percent and 96 percent of Reston Town Center is leased, the Business Journal reports.
