A drug deal in Centreville ended with one 18-year-old shot to death and another hospitalized and charged with murder, police said.
Fairfax County police said the Wednesday morning Centreville shooting occurred in the parking lot of shopping center in the 14600 block of U.S. 29. The shopping center has a Dunkin’ Donuts, other retail businesses, and offices.
The police said the two teens were in a car, got out, and shot each other. They recovered two firearms and drugs on the scene.
At a Wednesday briefing, Capt. Kent Bailey said the two teens were the only ones involved.
Michael Alcantara, 18, of Manassas, died at the Centreville shooting scene. Hassan Kanu, 18, of Centreville, remains hospitalized with serious injuries that police initially called life-threatening.
Police charged Kanu with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
An investigation continues, and detectives are asking anyone with surveillance footage of the area to review their footage and contact police at 703-246-7800 if they have any relevant information.
