14 Sledding Hills in NoVA to Visit on Your Next Snow Day

Grab your boots and dust off the sled for an afternoon of snowy fun.

By Michele Kettner January 20, 2026 at 10:16 am

With the first significant snowstorm of the year on the radar, it’s time to start staking out the best sledding spot. Start planning your trip to one of these 14 popular sledding hills throughout NoVA.

Angel Park

This little hill at Angel Park in Alexandria is perfect for beginners and those testing out their sledding saucers for the first time. West Taylor Run Pkwy., Alexandria

Algonkian Elementary School

Going to school on a snow day seems wrong, but you won’t regret it. Make your way past the school and baseball fields to find the sledding hill. 20196 Carter Ct., Sterling

George M. Hampton Middle School

When school’s out, it’s time for sledding. Head back by the fields for a steep hill that flattens out the closer you get to the field. 14800 Darbydale Ave., Woodbridge

Franklin Park

The 203-acre park is full of rolling hills perfect for winter weather. Scope out the park before the snow starts to stick to find your ideal hill. 17501 Franklin Park Dr., Purcellville

Jefferson Manor Park

You don’t have to trek through the snow to enjoy some winter fun at this park. The hill is right across from the parking lot. 2909 Farmington Dr., Alexandria

Lake Fairfax Park

This park that is full of family fun in summer is great for winter activities, too. If you’re looking for the best spot to zoom down the hill, check out the area behind the restrooms near the picnic tables. 1400 Lake Fairfax Dr., Reston

Mason District Park

In the past, the experts at Fairfax County Parks Authority have named this park the best in Fairfax County for sledding. 6621 Columbia Pk., Annandale

Occoquan Regional Park

While this park is known for its access to the river, it also is home to a hidden hill that’s perfect for sledding. Head past the boat ramps and you’ll find a hill that leads to the soccer and baseball fields. Make sure the park is open before your trip. 9751 Ox Rd., Lorton

Signal Hill Park

If the park has “hill” in the name, it has to be a great spot for sledding. The park has plenty of space for snowball fights, snowmen, and snow angels. 9300 Signal View Dr., Manassas

Stone House in Manassas National Battlefield

Situated behind the historic building is a massive hill that is frequented by sledding enthusiasts each winter. 12521 Lee Hwy., Manassas

Trench Hill

For speed, thrills, and maybe a little air, grab your sled and head to Fredericksburg. The steep hill is wide enough to create multiple sledding lanes, so the wait for snowy fun can be held to a minimum. Sunken Rd., Fredericksburg

Tuckahoe Park

The hill that lines North Sycamore Street is where you’ll find the sledders in Arlington. 2400 N. Sycamore St., Arlington

Windmill Hill Park

Get picturesque photos of your kids enjoying the snow. The quaint hill is perfect for little ones (and is great for those who hate the long walk back to the top). 501 S. Union St., Alexandria

Wolf Trap

You’ve been to Wolf Trap for a show, but what about a sledding session? Make your way toward Meadow Trail for a long hill that’s sure to be covered in untouched snow. 1551 Trap Rd., Vienna
