The Animal Welfare League of Arlington is looking for people willing to foster a dog, cat, or small companion animal for the holidays.
Fostering a pet, according to the shelter, gives the animal “a much-deserved break” from the kennel.
You would need pick up the pet from now through Saturday, December 23, and would then keep the foster pet through January 5, 2024.
The shelter is doing this on a first-come, first-match basis, but does not guarantee that everyone will get a pet.
There is a form on the shelter’s website for potential foster families to fill out. The shelter also has a few requirements. You need to live in the DMV and can’t travel out of the are with the pet.
For foster parents, the Animal Welfare League of Arlington will provide the following items:
Dogs: food, leash, harness.
Cats: food, bowls, litter box, litter, bed, toys.
Small companion animals: enclosure, food, hay and CareFresh bedding (fosters will need to refill these themselves), litter box, enrichment items, bowls.
For those who choose to adopt the pet, the shelter will knock 50 percent off the adoption fee.
