U.S. marshals and Fairfax County police caught an escaped inmate, who has been on the run more than 10 weeks, at a Springfield hotel Wednesday, the U.S. Marshals Service said in a news release.
Authorities took Naseem Roulack, 21, who goes by the name “Lil Nas,” into custody around 9 a.m. at the hotel in the 6700 block of Commerce Street.
When the U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Task Force and the Fairfax County police knocked on his hotel door, the marshals service said Roulack jumped out a third-floor window with an assault rifle. Along the way, he injured his arm and dropped the gun.
They caught the Woodbridge man after a short foot chase and took him to the hospital for treatment.
“I want to thank the U.S. Marshals Service, Virginia State Police, Fairfax County Police Department and other local, state and federal law enforcement partners for their tireless efforts assisting the VADOC’s Investigators and Officers in the effort to recapture this inmate,” said Virginia Department of Corrections Director Chadwick Dotson. The department said the case remains an active investigation.
Roulack had been in prison on a 13-year sentence for aggravated malicious wounding, grand larceny, and hit and run.
He has been on the lam since he escaped Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond early in the morning August 12. Two Department of Corrections officers had been assigned to watch him. The officers admitted to being asleep when Roulack escaped, an internal investigation found. Both resigned, rather than get terminated.
During his escape, Montgomery County, Maryland, police charged Roulack with a September 1 armed carjacking. He faces kidnapping, armed robbery, armed carjacking, first-degree assault and vehicle theft charges in Maryland.
Rewards for his capture had reached $20,000.
