Nando’s Peri-Peri will celebrate Mandela Day, humanitarian leader Nelson Mandela’s birthday, by giving away free chicken in exchange for school supplies Tuesday.

Customers who bring a new back-to-school item into any Nando’s location will receive a free quarter-chicken in return. The company will donate all of the supplies they collect to local schools and students.

The deal is only available from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. July 18. No purchase is necessary to claim the offer, but it is limited to one per guest.

The company, which was founded in 1987 in Johannesburg, South Africa, announced the deal on its Facebook page, saying it would “celebrate the greatest South African to have lived by following his example and giving back.”

“At Nando’s we are proud of our South African heritage. We will join in celebrating [Mandela’s] birthday on July 18th by following his example and giving back to our communities,” Nando’s said on its website.

Mandela Day is an annual global holiday that honors Nelson Mandela, a South African humanitarian and political leader known for his anti-apartheid activism. The Nelson Mandela Foundation created Mandela Day to serve as a reminder for people “to take time to reflect on Mandela’s values and principles and to make a positive impact in their own communities,” according to the Mandela Day website.

In the United States, Nando’s has locations in Virginia, Maryland, DC, and Chicago. There are 11 Virginia locations, including 10 in Northern Virginia.
